Frequently Asked Questions:

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

My typical process for working with new students is to see what they already know if they have taken previous dance classes, then I will go from there to teach them new techniques, steps, and movement to grow their skill level. If students are brand new and have never taken dance classes, I start with the basics. I also work with students strengths and weaknesses to bring each individual to their highest potential.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I studied dance for 24 years. I trained as a dancer for 24 years, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Pace University in New York City. In college I took pedagogy (teaching) and choreography classes in addition to my performing movement classes (dance classes). I also have 10 years of experience teaching at dance studios and online.

How did you get started teaching?

I assisted younger dance classes throughout my training and shadowed my mentors for about 16 years. Eventually, I progressed into teaching during my college years at dance studios; first as a substitute teacher, then a summer teacher, and finally a full time teacher.

Reviews:

.

"My daughter has been dancing ballet for 9 years and Shalynne is the most amazing dance teacher we have ever had. She truly connects with her students which not only helps them to learn a challenging curriculum but it makes the hard work become fun. Shalynne’s kind, gentle, professional and thorough teaching helped both my daughters progress at impressive speed while Shalynne’s grace has inspired their own expression. Shalynne’s choreography created beautiful ballet, lyrical, and contemporary pieces. Not only did Shalynne teach my daughter to get to pointe, additionally, she choreographed a ballet piece for my daughter that was used in a music video. Simply put, we love her and cannot recommend her enough." - Romy, Mother

"Shalynne Armstrong has been a joy to work with.  As a teacher, she is always kind, positive and prepared.  She welcomes each student with a smile, and clearly loves working with children!  As an employee, she is meticulously organized and always on top of every deadline and request.  I highly recommend Shalynne for both her work ethic and natural ease with students." - Lauren, Artist Director of Camarillo Academy of Performing Arts
